Elush is a communist. He invited me into his home to explain
that communism
never really did fail but the Albanian people could never live up to its standards. He expected more from America because of the
Albanian's failure
to weave socialism into their lives. His small house contained a daughter-in-law, son, two
grandchildren and his daughter-in-law's mother, two cows, a white cat now tanned with age and numerous chickens of which he
offered me three. "Communism and Christ don't mix well," he said, "but the God will care for me."
