I
can't attest to the scene of the original Lazarus-raising.
I know for sure Christ performed a miracle and Lazarus did come
back from the dead. God's will was destined.
In truth, it happened.
In a swiftly organized skit the Bright
Star Team brought drama to real life. In a small, close village room,
the re-enactment was carried out. Complete
with our front room curtain, Lazarus was carried in and placed on three
black chairs (color chosen to symbolize death? No, they were the closest).
Mary and Martha adorned with dish towels and enthusiasm came in crying
(real drama) followed by Jesus.
The assembled crowd instantaneously felt the big moment and
came to a hush.
Pleading with Jesus, and more crying by Mary and Martha,
their sobs and murmurs brought the anticipated reaction from the children,
and our chosen Jesus, gave his famous line.
Once Lazarus started rolling from the black chairs and falling into
the arms of Jesus (this wasn't in the script but added to the tension of a
dead person really moving). The
village hush broke when Lazarus understood his cue but in his straight
jacket curtain couldn't move. By
now, Mary and Martha and Jesus are untying our actor who could only flop
like an Adriatic fish.
The knot had tightened
with the fall and the rope binding our young actor head to foot really
became menacing. But with Mary
and Martha pulling and Jesus untying in what seemed a few minutes, Lazarus
broke out of the curtain, stretched and smiled to the cheering crowd.
What a way to come forth.
