There is more than one way to skin an Albanian cat. And
there’s more than one way to dispose of bunkers. In fact, I’ve seen every
way except eating them. The other day in the village, I came across the
best way yet! The vessel’s sides, bottom and back were dissected and formed
into something very useful: a footbridge. The very icon of authoritarian
power has now been reduced to village foot traffic! The villager can stomp
and clean his shoes or walk his cows all over the party symbol. In this
instance, they used every bit of the bunker for the bridge except the
suffering it imposed on the people; suffering spread by the spirit of fear
it evoked during the days of Communism. That suffering will have to be cut
out of every Albanian heart, dissected just like this bunker.
“Therefore you too now have sorrow……and your heart will rejoice and no
one takes your joy away from you.” John 16:22 NAS
