We touched down and exited the airport with our coats hung loose over tired
shoulders and luggage in both hands. Sarah and I are again in Albania with high and great emotions.
The ride to town rubs close to withered articles long out of date!
Rusted cars rush by burros and pony carts claiming their own identity with the past. It seems Albania has both a community indifference and a proud
patience to endure this steady dullness. In a land that seems to exhale this dull endurance, never has our admiration been any stronger.
Sarah and I have long ago had our personal questions about Albania
exhausted. But we still find it haunting to be constantly immersed in a condition of unreason. Time and seasons respectively vacate this place.
By all standards there are no standards here! Taken while on our way
from the airport, I've included this picture for reference of your own analysis. The yellow truck is coming against one way traffic, a broken
water main is spilling over to the dumpsters apathetically placed in the street and an aging bunker is trying to hide in the shadow of a new house.
I submit the unusual national remedy for fixing Albania is through love.
