God’s instructions to an orange tree must be a special thing.
Its fruit is the final evaluation of all the summer sun rolled into those
orange balls. I’m sure God’s whispers are persuasive to a tree ready
to cooperate.
This particular tree stands in the backyard of our ministry
center. It had been briefly explored by small hands on short people with a
rather ravenous consumption. Village children seem to sense all that
sunshine stored in the fruit of the tree is good for them. The orange blush
of that rich juice around their cheeks is the evidence of the real whisper
of God.
Jesus taught as well about the tree and its fruit. In Matt. 7:17 He
said, “Every good tree bears good fruit but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruit and a bad cannot bear good fruit. Thus by
their fruit you will recognize them.” Jesus’ teaching is about being on
guard about the type of fruit we are picking. Not every tree has good
fruit. Like the village children, we must sense all that’s stored up for us
from God.
